Survey Design for Cryptic Species

Designing acoustic and visual surveys to detect cryptic bats and birds in Australian field conditions — what to deploy, where, when, and for how long.

A monitoring system is only as good as the survey around it. Sensor placement, timing, duration, revisit intervals, and supporting methods should all follow from species ecology and detection limits. This work draws on years of Australian threatened-species field experience and contribution to Commonwealth bat survey guidelines.
